Important Update: GLP-1 Medications, Insurance Coverage, and Self-Pay Options (2026)

Dear Patient,

We want to share an important 2026 update regarding GLP-1 medications (Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, and Zepbound®). Insurance carriers are requiring significantly more prior authorizations (PA)—and we are seeing more denials than in prior years.

Current insurance coverage trends (2026):

  • Ozempic® and Mounjaro® are typically covered for Type 2 Diabetes (often requiring an A1c ≥ 6.0).

  • Wegovy® is typically covered for Obesity or Fatty Liver Disease.

  • Zepbound® is typically covered for Obesity or Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

  • Most PA requests are being denied when these diagnoses are not documented.

Self-pay pharmacy option (quality-controlled U.S. sourcing):
We have partnered with a San Antonio-based pharmacy that provides quality-controlled and tested compounded GLP-1 injectables (semaglutide and tirzepatide) sourced from reputable U.S.-based suppliers (no overseas sources).

  • Shipping: typically 2–3 days to your home/office

  • Supplies: included

  • Pricing: you pay the pharmacy directly; we do not upcharge.

Important note: Due to insurance regulations and our pharmacy agreement, Innovative Primary Care does not prescribe or dispense the compounded peptides listed below.
